The city under attack, siege of long breath. Starvation as a vile method to force capitulation. William the Silent knew what to expect. With plenty of stock within the walls they were well prepared.

Nonetheless the siege endured long. Famine festered and took many brave lives. Still, the aggressors did not succeed. The besieged withstood them successfully.

Siege mining access to breach the Dutch revolt failed. Tunnels collapsed due to too loose soil. A cold icy winter, demoralized men on both sides. One daring soul sneaked outside the walls. Dared to go on an adventure he found damping mash without mouths to be fed.

Empty tents within an abandoned camp. The siege of long breath, a wasted campaign. Confronted by the aggressor’s absence the boy’s disbelief.

Their patience being paid off. With no aggressors left, the remaining besieged survived. The mash and more were taken within the walls.

October 1574, frozen limbs but much warmed souls. Surrounding cities captured and ruined. But not this city. A too long siege. Intruding allies, Sea Beggars’ invasion.

Encouraged the aggressors departed. At the end, the besieged glorious and victorious. Leiden’s relieve, bold and perseverant achieved.
