lyrics

The Eighty Years war. A key event in Dutch history. Also known as the Dutch War of Independence. Sick and tired of the everlasting war in 1648 the Peace of Münster was signed. The formal recognition of the independent Dutch republic.

And at least important, the religious freedom of speech. No longer under
Spanish fury and rage. The Northern seven provinces went prosperous into the golden age. Colonization and improving trade, a world’s dominating, leading power.

The hunger for expansion had also a dark side. By taking over Portuguese routes, all, and also less humane benefits were taken. Unfortunate entangled and brought under slavery. With no human rights used as the tools of the trade.

A part of the rat race between the western European powers. The Dutch, prosperous through the golden age. Michiel de Ruyter’s victories at sea.

The French and English fleet, smashed into smithereens. Prosperous through the golden age. In England, the Glorious Revolution. Dutch William the 3rd on the throne!
